The Presidents’ Challenge

In Honor of the Choral Artists’ Forty Years and Dr. Holt’s Tenth Season

In recognition and celebration of the Choral Artists of Sarasota’s 40th and Artistic Director Dr. Joseph Holt’s 10th Anniversaries, the current and former Presidents of the Choral Artists Board have established a matching gift program. Starting December 9th, 2018 this Presidents’ Challenge will contribute $1,000 for every donation of $1,000 or more, to the extent of the fund.  In addition, every gift of $2,500 or more will also be matched with funds from the bequest of Clair E. Johnson.

The Presidents’ Challenge will be in effect through mid-March, 2019, and results will be announced at the Choral Artists Gala on Saturday, March 16.

Dr. Holt has led the transformation and growth of Choral Artists of Sarasota (founded as Gloria Musicae) since 2009, and has significantly raised the group’s standard of performance and programming.  Choral Artists is the area’s only fully professional chorus, with its thirty-two trained voices augmented by eight apprentice members. Choral Artists typically presents six concerts each year, with programs selected from the full range of secular and religious choral literature.

Choral Artists continues to receive glowing reviews from media, critics and audiences for outstanding performances featuring innovative and compelling repertoire. Performance highlights include collaborations with such outstanding organizations as the Sarasota Orchestra, West Coast Black Theater Troupe, Sarasota Contemporary Dance, Sarasota Young Voices, Artist Series Concerts, and pianist Dick Hyman.

Other notable appearances include Voices of the Holocaust, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and a highly successful tour of Italy’s Amalfi Coast.  As a major component of our celebration, Choral Artists is lead commissioner for a new symphonic cantata that celebrates our planet – Listen to the Earth.  With partners spread across the globe, the international effort will culminate in premiere performances in 2020 surrounding the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.  This choral legacy will enhance and illuminate our appreciation for the home we all call Earth.

Please consider helping us celebrate these two milestones with a donation to the Choral Artists of Sarasota. The Presidents’ Challenge and Clair E. Johnson matching gifts will leverage your generosity to even greater support for the artistic growth and excellence of this fine organization.
